PLO 1&2 Emerging Instructional Technologies and Using Technology

Use instructional design principles and theory to redesign a prior MATLT activity to demonstrate attainment of Program Learning Outcome 1 “demonstrate knowledge and skills related to learning using technology” and Program Learning Outcome 2 “demonstrate knowledge and skills in current and emerging instructional technologies." Post a link or attachment to your redesigned activity along with a brief description of your choice of instructional design principles and theory for the redesign.

I chose to redesign a classroom website Ms. Goins' Kindergaten Class I began in EDU652 instructional Design and Delivery to not only provide my students links to learning activities that will help them to construct knowledge, but where their parents and family member can also learn to help their child.   According to constructivism, learners build on their own personal interpretation of experiences and interactions that they have (Dabbagh, 2006).  In order for a learner to use internal coding to organize, classify, sequence, and structure information they need to have enriched learning experiences outside the school environment, as well as in the classroom.  Parental involvement and understanding of what is expected of a learner is as important as the lessons that are being designed and provided in the classroom. According to Anfara (2008) parent involvement influences student success. I wish to provide various learning experiences for students and their parents with direct communication to parents on a daily basis.  Reflecting from EDU648 Teaching and Learning with Technology,
Universal Design for Learning calls for …
Multiple means of representation, to give learners various ways of acquiring information and knowledge,
Multiple means of action and expression, to provide learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know,
Multiple means of engage to tap into learners’ interests, offer appropriate challenges, and increase motivation.”
This website will provide learning experiences for the different learning styles and abilities of our kindergarten students in order to differentiate learning experiences for the diverse learners that comprise our school population.  There is also a blog that the parents will be able to learn and share information about technology or other learning issues to encourage engagement and involvement.
